Finally Catching Up... Meanwhile Back In Berlin

Had a good time in Berlin, first time on my own in a foreign far away country. I was particularly happy that I was able to understand the train system. (Sorry if I've written any of this before, part of the dilemma faced when not keeping up to date)

Highlights there were the Modern & ye olde architecture, the various scale models, reconstructions / replicas of antiquities, actual antiquities, hearing German accents, the bread rolls, the really short departure from Tegel Airport (cause it super small) & especially Tiergarten! If I had more time I would cycle in & around it. Also I would go to the Berlin Zoo. Unfortunately I did one of my personal classics & walked heaps on Tiergarten day. (as in the day I scheduled to walk about the gardens) This took up heaps of time. (My ability to time events is flawed) and more painfully... my legs were aching. Once Id done the circumference of the gardens the Zoo was closed.

As you will see I had a coffee, in the blind belief that it'd be better than the Hotel coffee. As a result I've added a pic of me in black & white

Hopefully you're just as confused as I was by a shop called Mister Lady in one of my favourite towns Alexplatz. I had to do a double take which became a triple take & then I took the photo & walked on.

At Check Point Charlie (CPC), as illustrated in the pix, there was a car, as used during the CPC era of the Wall Division. Its amazing all the different ways people got secretly transported to the other side. Some by Flying Fox (not the animal but the rope one coupled with a pulley-like device) via holes dug underground, in one of those trolleys that older people put there shopping in, hidden inside a large loud speaker & the hidden compartment in the small car as scene in my pix  :  )

Saving the best till last is HUGE drama # Two: Departure from (Tegel) Berlin airport!

I arrived with the taxi driver who was (& is) deaf. No problem. In the Check out queue I was asked the standard (annoying yet necessary) questions "after" informing me that I was required to fill out an ESTA form before leaving. During the questions all I could think about was that form. Then they were not sure where there was internet in the airport. Eventually they gave me directions to one in another end of the airport. I went to an information booth in another section of the airport, went around that sector full circle, asked info booth again then found it. Only had some coins on me to operate the computer. Computer keys were different in places. It took me awhile to realize what was what. Then my coin operated time was running out AND there were smelly street people sitting behind me AND AND the computer wouldn't let me complete the $&*@^*# form!!!! I raced back to check in. The lady there was awesome!!! Eventually it had been sorted with less than a half hour till departure!!

My initial panic attack in Cairo still holds First Place of all my travel "experiences"    :  )

Where do I begin?...........

Hi y'all!

I've added extra visual to my visuals today, next step will be using Flickr to streamline my design further! One step at a time with Metal Dog & technology!

Someone asked me recently how did I come up with name Metal Dog.

There are three very good answers to this "as I have told you...." One I LOVE shiny objects, particularly metals. Secondly I LOVE LOVE LOVE DOGS!!!! And thirdly my Chinese star sign is Metal Dog! In Chinese Astrology the Zodiac is named after a series of animals, each animal is represented by a particular year each year. This year is Year of the Tiger so if you are born this year, you wont be able to read this  :  )  I was born in the Year of the Dog and my element is Metal. Each sign has a corresponding element. I feel happy that this astrological sign suits me so well & that I reflect the characteristics of that sign. :  )  Woof woof!   :  )

So today my last whole day in Berlin. Today I spent it walking & walking & walking. Its a good thing that I wasn't accompanied on this leg (What a funny expression!) of my holiday. I have a habit of walking heaps & often to the extreme much to others detriment. I walked from Mitte, Prinzenstrasse 40 all the way to Tiergarten the long way via Reichstag. I walked (nearly) the entirety of its gorgeous perimeter & then in between. I discovered a Beautiful Gated English Garden complemented with lulling fountain & slightly overgrown flora. I know a lady named Glwadys who would appreciate it as much as I did. There were statues of course around about and lovely grey rabbits took me by surprise on a number of occasions. I love rabbits! (but I don't like eating them)

It rained again today, at one time considerably, but not that heavy. This week in NYC it will be in the mid-30's! Thats 2moro  :  )   Yes so much of my time was spent walking to, around and in Tiergarten. My legs were SO SO tired and particularly my right foot! If I had to do it again I would definitely catch the train there to save my legs a little and that way had time & leg-energy to explore the Zoo @Tiergarten. Also the hiring of a push bike would have been exquisite. Tiergarten is a joy to absorb & relish!  :  )

After all that walking I took the train to Alexplatz (Spel? Will edit this later) One of my favourite area's of the city cause of its modern architecture & huge shopping complexes. Not as big as the one in Cairo but vastly vastly grander & better. I bought some cheap headphones, cause they always end up breaking up on me eventually, and two DVD's that Im hoping my laptop will accept the region for (2) Dorian Gray & Single Man. Both with gay themes / characters and both staring Colin Firth. Funny cause Im not a big fan of his. Though he is a good actor. I was actually put off buying them cause he is in it.

Other people Im deterred buying DVDs of is Tom Cruise, Nicolas Cage & Alan Rickman. I cant think of others but I will later. Do you have any actors you'd rather do without? Please let me know who & why. Im really interested. Seriously I am. The only time I really liked Cruise when he was in Risky Business that I went to see when I was underage! Other than that he annoys me! Let me know if you read this Mum.

So here I am in the foyer of Mitte One, about to sign off cause my short message has become a long one.

Its up to you New York!    NEW YORK!!!! So start spreadin the news..... Metal Dog turns FORTY in a few days time   :   )

From Sun Drenched Skies To Rain That Knows No End: Egypt 2 Berlin

So here is Metal Dog on his second day in Berlin. Forecast rain all week, a direct contrast to my days in Egypt with temperatures above & around forty degrees. For someone who doesn't like the heat I got used to it, apart from feeling like I needed to shower again after stepping out!

Today I ventured out to Check Point Charlie & its corresponding Museum. Very interesting! Tons of Info to read! Basically, in the not too distant past, Germany was divided by a wall. Neither peoples could pass either side & countless daring escapes, imprisonments, executions & heartaches occurred. Its an intriguing story, spies & amazing devices included. As I walked through the history I kept asking myself..."hadn't Germany been through enough already?"

Then it was off to Reichstag & The Brandenburg Gate, also surrounding these great monuments of former & present glory were other more modern architectural forms...pix are on the way!

Whilst in this vicinity I also admired the architecture of Potsdamerplatz, THIS is the architecture Id been hoping to see! This is what Berlin is all about, driven to perfection.... pix on the way!

After a lot of walking I explored the Gay district, a mixture of many things, many tree lined streets, a plethora of dining opportunities, restaurants etc that is, of varietal ethnic fare. The perfect place for a Queen! Might go back there tomorrow and walk through the Tiergarten, cause Metal Dog Loves Parks!  :  )

It seems I have a thing for Lions (oops I wrote Loins B4 that!) I have chosen this as my headliner pic cause for the colour, strength and boldness. Its from the Pergamon Museum on Museum Island. Original faience wall tiles illustrating the sacred lions, during the reign of Nebuchadnezar  II Sixth Century BC. So many beautiful expressions of architectures Ancient past.

Exhibit TWO is one of many reliefs to be admired while strolling the holy grounds of Karnak Temple, most of it in good order. This pic of Ramses (?) has been tinted green cause this is how I felt about it in my minds eye. A cool relief of a Pharaoh kneeling (kneeling is symbolic)

Next I've jumped over to Berlin in Exhibit THREE. Ich liebe diche this Lion! No Im not being rude, this is my limited vocabulary of German, I love this Lion! And yes he is smiling. Smiling Lions are my favourite kind  :  )

Exhibit FOUR brings us to the land of the Pyramids, sorry forgive me for land hopping Im dyslexic...my excuse for everything! Anyway Ancient Egypt was my childhood dream, a dream cause it provided me with endless fantasies and imaginings as I grew up. You see dreams can come true! But only if you want them to  :  )

Exhibit SIX, a Felucca ride on the Nile. This was a marvelous moment, I was so happy as depicted here, really relaxed and happy.

One of the things I could not stand & takes a lot of getting used to was the constant haggling & approaches to be sold to. "No hassel, no hassel!" Selling "stuff" that you apparently want. If only they didn't do this they'd make a great deal more sales! Instead it made me want to keep on walkin! Not peruse their wares & discover something people may really want. Anyway this pic was taking in one of those rare moments where I wasn't hassled  :  )  "No hassel, no hassel!" Yeah right! :  )

Sometimes pictures lie. In this shot Im not actually bigger than the donkey! My feet don't really touch the ground. We were given strict instruction not to give our donkey a name and to be tough with our donkey, wise words. Calling out "Yella yella" was supposed to make donkey, affectionately named, go faster faster! This was not the case. Stubborn as a mule? Yes this was more to the point. At least I didn't fall off & I could steer donkey  :  )  We rode from the river bank of Luxor & up to the Valley of the Kings. I want to ride a donkey again & I'd like to try riding a horse. The experience was one of my highlights! Thanks donkey, you rock!    :  )

Exhibit TEN is an example of yet another highlight of the trip. The food was out of this world! The flavours were fresh & inviting. The hand models used courtesy of my food stylin direction. They were requested them to create authenticity & to give the photograph life!

Another question that Im sure I will delve into is why oh why is Queen Nefititi given SO much attention when her husband was a unique & fascinating individual who made Ancient Egyptian history as a heretic Pharaoh!? He is far more interesting, she was just very beautiful (apparently)

We had two HUGE train journeys to take us to Luxor & beyond. How many hours was it? Did we really sleep at all? We used the train that the locals used, there were signs in some places that said it was First Class. First Class for what?! Exhibit Fifteen is actually the lovely Anna, blending into her surroundings & looking quite cultural. In pix B4 this you will notice a bevy of equally attractive & engaging ladies. Observe Exhibit Twelve from left to right is Mel, Claudette (Canadian), Julie, Anna, Lisa & Christina. (Spain / UK) I had SO many wonderful experiences with all of them. Each has there own unique character & way of being. I certainly got more than I bargained for, which makes me teary eyed. (Teary Eyed is a great song by Missy Elliot btw)

Just to elaborate here in case there is any confusion for my viewers out there when I was referring to the heat in Exhibit Eighteen I did mean the temperature, not me, though I do look rather dishy in (this) pic. Maybe not so leg spreaded but I did say it was hot!  :  )

Exhibit TWENTYONE..... Aren't I clever! There were many shots taken like this for reflection.

Exhibit TWENTYTWO / TWENTYTHREE  mentions a cover charge. This Mosque was incredible & I've got lots of pix to prove it. Though our guide provided much confusion regarding a cover charge, a tip really. He seemed to have some set price, per person, in mind at the end of the visitation. He sure confused us! This disappointed me slightly cause B4 this I was a little awestruck. Luckily I bought some beautiful & highly decorative Papayrus at the markets across from here. The pic in Exhibit TWENTYTHREE is intriguing cause these are the placements for where the men come to pray. The ladies have there own separate area. Im sure this is standard for Mosque design.

The moral to that story when in Egypt etc is... Always agree on a price B4 venturing forth!

Its actually Four30 am here in Berlin, I've had too much fun writing this to stop. A leisurely last day today when I awake!

So that brings us to the end of the Exhibits for now. There are many more sites to behold, after this short break...........

So here I am in Berlin, the weather is cool & bearable in stark contrast to my adventures in Egypt!

Spent several hours at Museum Island only a short distance from my hotel via the U-bahn network. Thought it'd be challenging to decipher the system though questions & some research have prepared me for my new environment. I like to prepare my mind so that when I reach a destination, whether that be distant lands or a new concept Im ready for the experience. Be inquisitive.

Sorry there aren't any pix yet, just one, Im slightly technology illiterate and so am slowly learning the process. As most people learn visually & retain information visually its important to be as visual as possible. Great for retention & great for keeping everyones attention  :  )

So I LOVED Egypt, despite the heat, circa forty degrees, and the constant approaches from locals selling something or other. Apart from that, the poverty and machine guns, Egypt is a wonderful place to visit. My laptop is overflowing with photos so once I realize how its done we'll be more visual. (Hey thats why my Blog is so colorful, visuals are key, apart from music, but thats another story. (I love stories btw just not long drawn out ones where Metal Dog is cornered in a corner)

Oh speaking of Metal Dog yes I know that my one & only pic is one of a lion cub photographed out the front of Denver Zoo in 2007. I love metallic & shiny things incredibly!

Back soon!

Stay tuned!

Stay tuned for the adventures of Metal Dog in Egypt and NOW in Berlin!!!!!!

He has been having TOO much fun & adventure lately that there's been no play time for Blogs  :  )

In the beginning was Metal Dog and he was happy....

Yes this is the beginning of Metal Dog Presents...

Metal Dog is a hopeful & mostly happy soul. He loves to play, sometimes too much & forgets where he is, whose about & what he's meant to be doing, but always remains hopeful.

Then he will be hopping over to Berlin for some serious frolicking, very quick site seeing & a cultural soaking before taking a HUGE leap, bound & plunge into the BIG BOLD & the BEAUTIFUL New York City!!!!

(Metal Dog has discovered that there is a Museum Island in Berlin!!!!! I hear you ask "why would you be excited over a museum island?" Cause Metal Dog LOVES museums & there isn't one there but a whole *#@?!%* ISLAND of them!!!! That's why!     :  )

The last time Metal Dog was in NYC it was ridiculously freezing, back in 2007, so he wants to revisit this AWESOME mega city in the summer! He will ABSOLUTELY go ballistic in Central Park, cause Metal Dog LOVES parks! Especially huge ones :  )   (Parks that is)  AND there are bridges (which Metal Dog loves BIG time!)  Museums, tones of brilliant architecture and the Planetarium. Oh and the NYC Americans :  )   He loves it all!

Once Metal Dog has recovered from his walking, tasting, jumping, feeling, playing, seeing, talking, singing, running & laughing about he will do it all again in a place he has longed to explore for some time.... San Francisco  :  )    Here is where Metal Dog will really take his time to play, explore, sing & laugh etc...

Gotta stop now though, all this writing is exhausting for this Metal Dog  :  )

Metal Dog has devoted SO MUCH time, effort & thought to his holiday that he will NEED a holiday to recover from the grief of organizing. Metal Dog does not like organizing much at all. Its important but certainly not fun!

Woof!    :   )
